05/23 - LunaCasting!

LunaLive has been broadcasting over satellite - uninterrupted - 24x7 since May 23, 2005. That’s 95 months and 29 days of non-stop service!

Apple’s QuickTime Broadcaster has proven to be rock-solid and bullet-proof.

We’re using an old Powerbook G3 that was just collecting dust (having been replaced by a slick new Ti-book G4). The G3 is running OS X Panther, and hasn’t needed rebooting once since installation back in May.

I cannot stress enough how important this is to us: to reboot the Mac during the middle of winter would cost me round-trip air from Dallas to Vancouver, plus a minimum of 2 more commuter flights, plus another chartered float-plane flight. An unscheduled reboot could easily cost $2500, and would take a minimum of 3 days to effect.

Like I said before, it’s remote.

And having a solution that we can depend on allows us to focus our energies on expanding the project. Click here to see LunaLive future steps.
